Bedford in the past
The Bedfordshire Record Office (see Places to visit) has a huge collection of documents relating to the county, dating from as far back as the 12th century. It also has a collection of photographs, and a few landmarks of Bedford are shown here.
This is a picture of the High Street, looking from the town bridge. It was taken in 1938. The bridge has evidently been widened since then.
