In the wake of a totally negative and short sighted damper on the Nirah Project, and an equally stupid and myopic decision not to move to a two-tier educational system, it comes as a pleasant surprise that our failing Bedfordshire County Council has approved the building of an Olympic Rowing lake. However, even this decision was only approved by seven votes to four.
Councillor John Scott, the Council's cabinet member for planning and economic growth (bit of a joke, that brief!) is reported to have made the claim that:
"This proves that Bedfordshire County Council is a forward thinking can-do authority that can approve big schemes."
An over-statement if there ever was one! What planet do these people live in?
According to Bedfordshire on Sunday, the purpose built rowing lake will be a 2,300 metre long, multi-lane facility, which will become the focus for rowing training in Bedfordshire.
