This weekend sees the fourth International Kite Flying Festival in Russell Park. Whether or not kite flying is your interest, the very fact of seeing thousands of spectators gives a special buzz. Previous ones have proved highly successful. Starts at 10am.

Also this weekend the Bedford Museum looks back to the second world war, and there will be many people dressed in period costume vehicles of the time, and documents, etc. That will take place from 11.30am till 4pm and is, of course, free of charge.

A reminder of the rationing that people had to endure during the war.

Finally, it's nothing whatsoever to do with Bedford, but here's an interesting piece of news I saw on the Net this evening, relating to a certain event I am told is taking place:

A 94-year-old declared dead suddenly sprang up and asked when Germany were next playing in the World Cup.

When told she had been declared dead by doctors, Maria Mueller replied: "Not likely, not until I see if Germany wins the World Cup.

"There's still life in these old bones yet, and I certainly couldn't miss the football."

Mrs Mueller had been found slumped over in her chair by son Bernhard Mueller, 66, at their home in Luegde. Neither Bernhard nor a local doctor could find a pulse.

Have a good week!
